What are the features of a river and how does it change its shape?

Image
The lesson started like any other lesson recapping their previous about the different parts of the Water Cycle and why water is important to us.  At the beginning of the lesson the children  came up with a definition for a river. They then looked at what we would see on a river and how man uses it. They then watched a clip where three children took them on a journey from the source to the mouth. They then recapped these and either drew a map or labelled a diagram. Finally, they identified how rivers can change shape through erosion and deposition. We used the image of a sandcastle being knocked down by the sea to help the children understand how sand, rocks are moved by water.  Well done year 4.

French: Lesson 3: to describe the weather in different cities in France including the temperature

Year 4 sang their song and learnt how to say the temperature. They then looked at a map of France and  practised saying the weather including the temperature. They then used a given sentence structure to write sentences.

French: lesson 2: to write a rhyming poem

Year 4 Sanger their song and practised their weather vocabulary with actions. They then listened carefully to work out which town name rhymed  with which  weather type.  They then wrote their rhyming poem.

French: lesson 1: Quel temps fait-il?

Year 4 started a new topic all about the weather. They learnt their new song, weather vocabulary and actions. They then matched different weather to different cities and wrote sentences, after which they labelled different weather images.

What is the water cycle good for?

To start off lesson 2, the children recapped what a mountain is and named any of the features. Some great remembering from last lesson and they even named all 8 features.  Today, the children identified how water affects their lives. They came up with some great ideas, such as showers, baths, brushing teeth, washing up, swimming as well as giving water to their pets.  Then, the children had to estimate the average amount of water that was used for certain activities in litres. See the attached table. They loved this, however, there are some children who think they use 10 times more water in a shower than a bath! I wouldn’t want to pay your water bill.  Finally, they looked at how the water cycle works and then they discussed what would happen if there was no evaporation. Some fantastic answers, like flooding, plants and animals would die, there would be no clouds.
