Year 4 Sanger their song and practised their weather vocabulary with actions. They then listened carefully to work out which town name rhymed with which weather type.
Today, Year 4 began to explore how life in Britain changed after the Romans took over. Did you know that Britain was Roman for 300 years? Britain was quite peaceful in this time, and many Celts became Roman citizens. They even spoke Latin! Year 4 learned that the Romans made huge changes in Britain, including building better roads, introducing flushing toilets, and even bringing garlic, celery, and grapes into Britain! Year 4 began to discuss which change they thought was the most important.
In English this term we have been writing letters in the style of the ‘howlers’ from Harry Potter. We loved getting the chance to do some telling off, and we were even able to film our howlers with a little bit of ‘magic’ to bring them to life. This week, the children recapped their previous knowledge of the continents and oceans. They then debated the words: habitat and adaptation. Some very interesting ideas. From there they researched how (using real cacti) cacti are able to live in the desert through their use of long roots system so they can gather up as much water as possible as it does not rain much in a desert. Furthermore, they have spikes on them instead of leaves to protect them from being eaten and animals sucking out its water. Following on, the children looked at how a camel is able to live in the harsh conditions of a desert. Did you know that they have two sets of eyelashes? They can close their nostrils and their fur protects them from the sun as well as keeping them warm at night.
