World Book Week - Introduction

Today Year 4 were surprised to find a crime scene set up in the corridor as they arrived in school. Our task was to investigate and see if we could identify anything that tied the clues together…

We explored each of the clues and discovered that the link was ‘fairy tales’. We talked about fairy tales and thought about what they all have in common, deciding that sometimes the character are a bit silly!

Our text this week is called Instructions and it is a poem by Neil Gaiman. In it, the author offers advice to fairy tale characters through the form of instructions. We will be using this text to inspire our own writing this week.

French: lesson 6: using il me faut

 Year 4 revised everything they’ve learnt so far including singing their song and a new song all about stationery. They learnt a sentence structure: pour ……. Il me faut. Using verbs and stationery  which translates, for example, for writing, one will need a pen  The children practiced saying this, changing the verbs and nouns. They then chose appropriate words to fill in.

Author Visit - Peter J Murray

Today, KS2 were treated to a morning with Peter J Murray - author of several books, including the amazing Mokee Joe series.  Pete told us how Mokee Joe came about - a simple game of hide and seek with his children that became more scary! We were introduced to the characters that appear in Mokee Joe - the good, the bad and the ones in between! We discovered the characters of Hudson Brown, Molly and Ashley - who try to bring Mokee Joe down.  The stories were set in different parts around the world and each bringing more adventure, problems and villains with it.   The children were captivated and laughed, clapped, gasped and were in awe of the stories.  They were a credit! Pete said that they were "an amazing audience" and that he would love to come back and work tell them more of his stories!  There is still time to send in some money for books - £5 each / a complete set of 6 for £30 (he has said that there will be no more Mokee Joe's).  Please send any ...
