2022-24 Year 4 Blog

 This week the children looked at how camels have adapted to live in the desert. They were fascinated that it has three layers of eyelashes and uses its fur to shade itself from the sun. Finally, the class discussed what a camel keeps in its hump as most of the children thought it was water. However, it stores fat in its hump to use as energy!

In maths this week, Year 4 have been exploring graphs. Today we were looking at line graphs and comparing these with bar graphs. We discovered that line graphs are used to measure changes over time. To help us to see this further we did an experiment in the classroom to measure number of hops in a minute. We had lots of fun recording our data and drawing the corresponding graphs. 

 This week in school we have been celebrating Safer Internet Week. We have been learning about how to keep ourselves safe online, considering the positive and negative experiences that we can have. The theme this year has been ‘want to talk about it?’ and we have spent time thinking about who we would talk to if something went wrong online. We particularly enjoyed trying to find positive online experiences for all 26 letters of the alphabet!

  During today’s lesson the children recapped what biomes are. Then, they watched a small clip about how cactuses have adapted to live in the desert. They then drew a cactus and annotated its features.  Finally, the children were able to look and touch four different types of cacti. 

 Year 4 revised all the work they have done this half term. They looked at adjectives and used a given sentence structure  to write their own sentences using agreement. 

 Year 4 revised numbers and colours. They sang a numbers song and the rainbow song. They then completed a variety of activities.

 What a great morning at Ryde School competing against others in a maths challenge. The four children who were chosen to represent Gurnard were a real credit to the school and they enjoyed the many activities.
